Special Use Permits

Special use permits coming to Council

Between the application and the final vote, a special-use permit moves through City Council and the Planning Commission — and for a while it can be hard to see where it sits. This page tracks that middle stretch: which permits are docketed for an upcoming Council vote, which have been introduced but not yet scheduled, and what the Planning Commission recommended on each.

Over the last 12 months, a special-use permit took a median of 139 days from introduction to Council passage (100 permits).

Source: the City of Richmond's Legistar legislation system (richmondva.legistar.com), the same system that publishes Council agendas and ordinances. Each row links to the City's own record for that ordinance. Dates are the City's: introduction, the scheduled Council agenda, Planning Commission action, and final passage. The address and purpose are parsed from the ordinance title; a few older or amended titles don't follow the standard form, so the occasional field may be blank.
