- Staff · July 29, 2026This description below has been sent to me from a text message since the original cityworks description was so vague. two dangerous traffic intersection that I suspect could cause the next fatal accident in RVA. One is in the busy neighborhood at 4th&Hull st. All the new apartment construction has created an area where between 4-6pm it is dangerous to cross the street. There are no traffic lights in the area between entering/exiting the area near the Mayo bridge up to the Hull & Commerce intersection. You have to wait until someone slows down for you to cross (it's like the VA Beach strip on Atlantic where there are no street lights), until you get to Commerce & Hull st intersection. The other problem intersection is at Main&24th where the shipping area (Grocer and CVS) is located. There is no traffic light once the Pulse bus drops off, and the pedestrian is at the mercy of whoever is driving if they decide to stop for you or not. Pedestrians must rush across the street before the next vehicle approaches. I'm not understanding why the city would create these busy interactions and then leave it up to the pedestrian to figure out how to cross the street??. The 311 number takes a long time to speak to someone. I contacted the department of public works and left a message (804) 646-7430 time will tell if they do anything about this! (I'll bet if someone is hit and killed and it becomes a news story the Mayor will be showing up for a vigil!!) I spoke with the rep. At DPW and was given this ref. #.. DPW000242088. I understand things take a while in a bureaucracy, but I don't want an accident to speed up the process. Take care, Darrl Davenport. darrldavenport@aol.com
