Description

Wentbridge Road has become a cut-through for drivers exiting the interstate to access Brookland Parkway or return to I-95, resulting in daily speeding and unsafe conditions. The intersections at Endicott and Loxley currently only have yield signs, which should be changed to stop signs. Last week, driver failed to properly yield and caused an accident. Fortunately, no one was injured. I also propose adding speed bumps along the road to slow traffic and improve safety for children and residents.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. None of the requested intersections with Wentbridge Rd (Chatham Rd, Endicott Rd and Loxley Rd) meet the traffic conditions in the MUTCD for all-way stops. The average speed on Wentworth Rd ranged between 15mph and 29mph in the 25mph zone. The speed sample is in general compliance with speeds for a residential street. Speed tables are not planned. DPW can make traffic control changes at the intersection of Wentbridge Rd and Loxley Rd. This would result in installing stop signs on Wentbridge and removing the Yield signs on Loxley. This should help with cut-through traffic concerns on Wentbridge between Hermitage Rd and Robin Hood Rd. Support from the neighborhood and City Council Rep is needed before DPW will make the signing changes.
