Citizen is requesting help with speeding at intersection of 27th St and R St; states he got in an accident; states there should be a stop sign at each corner was told four way sign doesnt meet traffic volume

- Staff · April 2, 2026DPW must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. The MUTCD conditions are mainly about a combination of traffic on the free flow street and the stopped street. This is basically how the MUTCD warrant works: - The traffic volumes along the free flow street (major street) and the stopped street (minor street) must be at a certain level for each hour for eight hours of a weekday to meet the requirements of the MUTCD all-way stop warrants. o Major street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 300 or more vehicles an hour. (R St) o Minor street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 200 or more vehicles an hour. (27th St) - Both traffic conditions must be met. All-way stops are not currently planned since R St and N. 27th St because the intersection does not meet the MUTCD traffic volume requirements. For example, to meet the traffic volume requirements for R St (major street) the minimum vehicles per day (24-hour period) approaching N. 27th St must be at least 2400 vehicles a day. Today the approaching vehicles measure around 700 vehicles. The average speed on R St at N. 27th St measured 16mph in a 25mph zone. Traffic calming measures are not planned.
