Gaps in traffic for pedestrians to safely cross is a key issue especially on multi-lane streets. Marked crosswalks alone are insufficient, since pedestrian crash risk may be increased by only providing a marked crosswalk. We must consider using other treatments, such as traffic signals with pedestrian signals where warranted to improve crossing safety for pedestrians. A traffic signal is a capital expense and not planned. Therefore, the City has no current plans to mark a crosswalk on Patterson Ave and Harlan Circle.
