Description

Due to the speed with which vehicles travel on E Clay Street, they often bottom out at the intersection of 26th, which damages both the vehicles and the roadway. It is also difficult to cross E Clay as a pedestrian on 26th. It is also dangerous to cross or turn onto E Clay from 26th in a vehicle. A four way stop (i.e. adding stop signs on E Clay) would resolve these issues.

The Department of Public Works must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before proposing an all-way stop. This is a federal publication that applies to all streets open to public travel. Warrants in the MUTCD must be met. The intersection of N 26th St & E Clay St does not meet the traffic conditions set forth in the MUTCD for an all-way stop. Also, the DMV crash history at this intersection did not show any reported crashes in nine years (1.1.17– 12.31.25)
