Description

Various car accidents have occurred on the corner of 31st Street and P street. Most recently, an accident occurred yesterday. This is an extremely busy intersection and is often used as a pickup point for children to go to school. Another request is being made to turn intersection into either a 4-point stop sign corner. Some form of signage or traffic protocol needs to be placed at this corner slow down traffic and to prevent further accidents.

The Department of Public Works must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before proposing an all-way stop. This is a federal publication that applies to all streets open to public travel. Warrants in the MUTCD must be met. The intersection of P St and 31st St does not meet the traffic conditions set forth in the MUTCD for an all-way stop. DPW will review for the need for more No Parking signs to enhance intersection sight distance.

Inspected the location. Work Order 149573 has been completed. The work order called for the installation of corner clearance signs.
