Description

This intersection is a frequent site of car accidents and close calls with pedestrians. It lacks turn arrows in all directions, which leads to cars running red lights to make their left turns. Other drivers and pedestrians with the right of way are at great risk. Due to the location of the library and RMTA bus stops, there is a high pedestrian presence that is at risk due to these behaviors. Please add a timed left turn arrow for cars turning left from Westbrook onto Brook and vice versa.

DPW has reviewed the operations of the traffic signal at Brook Rd and Westbrook Ave including a review of the intersection geometrics, peak hour directional turning movements history of reported crashes and computer timing optimization. DPW, with the assistance of a traffic consultant, reviews all this data and makes timing and phasing adjustments as needed to achieve the best overall area traffic signal operation. No changes are planned currently at Brook Rd and Westbrook Ave. (FYI - The number of pedestrians crossing this intersection at any one weekday peak period was usually less than five for the entire intersection. DMV crash records for the latest nine years (1.1.17-12.31.25) did not show any reported pedestrian crashes at this intersection.)
