Description

This intersection at N 31st and Leigh should have a 4-way stop and/or a speed bump on Leigh St. Since Leigh became the only way in and out of the neighborhood with Government road closed, there is a lot of fast traffic on Leigh. In the mornings when kids are walking to chimborazo elementary, its almost impossible to cross Leigh safely and cars have a hard time seeing cross traffic given its a slight hill, blocking visibility.

The Department of Public Works must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before proposing an all-way stop. This is a federal publication that applies to all streets open to public travel. Warrants in the MUTCD must be met. The intersection of N. 31st St and Leigh St does not meet the traffic conditions set forth in the MUTCD for an all-way stop. The average speed on Leigh St in this section ranged from 18mph – 23mph in the 25mph zone. Speed tables are not currently planned. The intersection will be checked for No Parking restrictions on the corners.
