Description

The intersection of Cutshaw & Blacker is extremely unsafe: no 4-way stop, no sidewalks, and heavy cut-through traffic at high speeds. Drivers often treat it as a 4-way stop, causing confusion and near misses. It’s also a designated school bus stop where large groups of children gather daily. Families with young kids live nearby, and the risk of a serious accident is high. A 4-way stop is urgently needed to slow traffic and protect pedestrians before tragedy occurs.

The Department of Public Works must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. This is a federal publication that applies to all streets open to public travel. Commonwealth Ave as it intersects with Cutshaw Ave does not meet the MUTCD traffic volume requirements for an all-way stop.
