Description
Multiple requests have been put in for a STOP sign at this intersection. The neighborhood is growing, there are more kids, pets, and cars on these streets than ever before. Our requests have been ignored and dismissed by the city who claims everyone drives the speed limit, which clearly isn't true. Today there was a t-bone collision at this intersection (12/24/2025 13:5, unit 411A1) - likely would have been avoided by a STOP sign. Add a STOP sign S-T-O-P Find out what it means to me S-T-O-P

- Staff · December 30, 2025DPW must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. The MUTCD conditions are mainly about a combination of traffic on the free flow street and the stopped street. This is basically how the MUTCD warrant works: - The traffic volumes along the free flow street (or major street or in this case Garland Ave) and the stopped street (or minor street or in this case W. Essex St) must be at a certain level for each hour for eight hours of a weekday to meet the requirements of the MUTCD all-way stop warrants. o Major street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 300 or more vehicles an hour. o Minor street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 200 or more vehicles an hour. - Both traffic conditions must be met for the major and minor streets to meet the MUTCD requirement. All-way stops are not currently planned since Garland Ave and W. Essex St does not meet the MUTCD traffic volume requirements. (For example, Garland Ave has less than 50 vehicles an hour where the above MUTCD warrant shows a minimum of 300 vehicles an hour for each hour for eight hours a day which is at least 2,400 vehicles a day.)
