- Staff · October 3, 2025The average speed on Main St between S. 26th St and Williamsburg Ave ranged between 27mph and 29mph in the 25mph zone. The Fire Marshall does not support traffic calming measures on Main St because this street is classified as an Urban Minor Arterial, carries around 14,000 vehicles a day and is a strategic route for emergency vehicles. The area of Main St and Williamsburg Ave will soon be under construction to improve vehicle operations and safety. Pedestrian safety improvements are also planned. Some specific improvements include: • Realignment of the intersection by revising the dominate traffic flow movement from East Main Street (Route 5) to Williamsburg Avenue • Installing new traffic signal with pedestrian crossing buttons • Installing and reconstruct sidewalks and install ADA accessibility • Installing new street lighting • Installing new pavement, signs, and markings • Installing landscape • Upgrading drainage
