Description
This is a dangerous intersection where 1st Ave merges with 2nd Ave. They are almost parallel — it is impossible to look over your shoulder to see traffic before pulling out from 1st Ave to merge with 2nd Ave. Car mirrors can only help so much, but the angle is wrong. A convex mirror on this corner would make merging much safer. And considering the school just blocks away, it would make it much safer for kids being picked up from school (and their parents).

- Staff · September 23, 2025An eight-year review (1.1.17 – 12.31.24) of DMV crash records did not show any reported crashes at the junction of 1st Ave and 2nd Ave. A Yield sign and a Yield Ahead sign is on 1st St northbound. No sign changes are planned. The Manual for Uniformed Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) contains the national standards governing all traffic control devices. All public agencies with roads open to public travel across the nation rely on the MUTCD to bring uniformity to the roadway. A convex mirror is not a traffic control device and not installed on public streets by the Dept.of Public Works.
