Description

The request is for P st anywhere there between 34th/oakwood to 29th. Wherever it is permitted by federal law. I know youve shared before that any stretch over 1200 feet is the federal guideline. This stretch of road meets this requirement. Please advise on a speed calming bump or bumps here. Oakwood has multiple speed bumps on it and all that traffic comes right onto P St. Unimpeded. Please request for another speed monitorong survery to be run here.

1200’ is not a federal guideline but is a reasonable minimum distance for a street length to be before considering a new speed table without the effect of a stop sign or a traffic signal according to national research. Once we have a free flow street measured of at least 1200’ then DPW reviews available speed data. The City contracted with Urban SDK, a system of record for government infrastructure operations, planning and development. Urban SDK lets us obtain data under a geospatial data analysis platform making it very easy and quick to obtain traffic information. That’s why since late 2024 we can review speed and other traffic data on about 95+% of city streets and determine if the data shows a speeding issue. The speed on P St between Chimborazo Blvd and N. 29th St ranged between 16mph and 23mph in the 25mph zone. (The average speed measured 20mph.) Speed tables are not currently planned.
