Description
Almost all intersections in Bellevue are 4-way stops, yet this intersection doesn't, despite it being one of the most busy intersections in for pedestrians and vehicles around 7:40 am when school starts and 14:30 when school gets out. The lack of a 4-way stop when every other one is, causes confusion / hesitation, which is dangerous. The intersection does not have clear visibility and is a safety hazard for parents and children and causes issues for cars queueing up for child pickup.

- Staff · July 28, 2025The Department of Public Works (DPW) must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The DMV crash database for the last three full years (1.1.22– 12.31.24) at Claremont Ave and Monticello St did not show any reported crashes. The intersection of Claremont St and Monticello Ave does not meet the traffic requirements for an all-way stop. FYI - Some area all-way stops installed via City Council Ordinance: - Nottoway Ave and MacArthur Ave - Nottoway Ave and Monticello St - Fauquier Ave and Nottoway Ave - Fauquier Ave and Avondale Ave - Fauquier Ave and Greycourt Ave
