Description

I had submitted request DPW000209071 to request a Four-Way Stop sign at Honaker & Stuart Aves, and it was closed saying it did not meet the criteria of the MUTCD guidelines. However Section 2B.07 of the MUTCD (in “Other Criteria,” Section C) says that the if a “road user…cannot see conflicting traffic and is not able to reasonably safely negotiate the intersection,” then that should be considered in a study Can an additonal study be done here? As seen in the pictures, view is extremely limited

Thank you for your comments but an all-way stop is not planned at Honaker Ave and Stuart Ave. Most hours of traffic on Stuart Ave have less than ten vehicles on an approach to Honaker and doesn’t meet the MUTCD traffic requirements for an all-way stop. The intersection of Honaker and Stuart is like many other intersections in the Three Chopt Neighborhood where the streets are laid out in a grid pattern intersecting other streets at right angles making it safer and easier for vehicles to navigate. The latest eight years of DMV crash data (1.1.17– 12.31.24) did not reveal any reported crashes at Honaker and Stuart. The installation of no parking areas is one way to enhance sight distance at an intersection. There are some no parking areas on Honaker at Stuart but if you wish DPW to expand the no parking areas on Honaker at Stuart then submit another RVA311 request and we will review.
