Description

Yet another car accident at N. 25th Street and E. Clay this morning. Again, a car is hit and crashes onto the sidewalk in front of our storefront home on the NW corner. If such an accident causes a direct hit to our building, which is supported only by four columns along its front and side, this could cause a partial building collapse. We have asked repeatedly for some way to slow traffic at this intersection. There are accidents almost every month at this intersection.

The Fire Marshall does not support traffic calming measures such as speed tables on 25th St since it is classified as an Urban Collector, carries around 4500 vehicles a day and is a strategic route for emergency vehicles. 25th St has No Parking signs on all four corners at Clay St to enhance intersection sight distance. DPW installed intersection ahead signs on 25th St in both directions approaching Clay St to alert motorists to the intersection. Crosswalks have also been approved for 25th St and Clay St.
