Description
This intersection at Willow Lawn Drive and Patterson Ave is a mess. There are multiple extensions, drivers speed well above the 25 mph limit. It is an ideal location for a traffic circle which should incorporate the entrance to Westwood neighborhood. Drivers regularly go the wrong way on Dunbar St to enter the business/retail area on Patterson. There is also limited sight when leaving Westwood from Dunbar to make a left onto Willowlawn Drive, making it difficult to safely turn.

- Staff · June 24, 2025The average speed on Patterson Ave between Willow Lawn Dr and Seneca Rd measured 32mph in the 25mph zone. Average speeds in the 35mph zone from Willow Lawn Dr to Harlan Circle measured 36mph. Traffic calming is not currently planned for Patterson Ave. Patterson is classified as an urban principal arterial, carries about 20,000 vehicles a day and is a strategic corridor for emergency vehicles. A roundabout is a capital expense and not planned at Patterson Ave and Willow Lawn Dr. Another Do Not Enter sign will be installed on the short one-way north bound section between Patterson Ave and Dunbar St. Contact the Richmond Police Department (804.646.5100) to report vehicles going the wrong way. DMV had no reported crashes for vehicles turning left onto Willow Lawn Dr from Dunbar St for the latest eight-year period (1.1.17 – 12.31.24). The whole intersection of Patterson and Willow Lawn had four reported crashes for the latest eight-year period (1.1.17 – 12.31.24) according to DMV.
