Description

The new traffic calming designs on Jefferson are great, but now a lot of high-speed drivers are using Marshall Sts to avoid them. A huge uptick in speeding, stop-sign running, rolling stops, not yielding to pedestrians, and other things have happened lately on Marshall st between 21st and 24th.

The focused approach on speed management in the City’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program first considers the distance of a free flow street of at least 1200’ in length in a tangent section (straight section) without traffic signals, existing traffic calming measures or stopped conditions on the major street. Marshall St between 21st St and 25th St measures about 1200’. There are traffic signals at 21st St and at 25th St; an all-way stop in the middle at N. 23rd St.; and no speed tables. The average speed on Marshall between these two points measured 17mph. Speed tables are not currently planned. Contact the Richmond Police Department (804.646.5100) to report vehicles running stop signs.
