Description

People continue to fly well over the 30 mile an. hour speed limit at all times of the day. It is almost impossible to walk across the street at the crosswalks at the intersection of commonwealth and cary to access Mary Munford. We have lived on the 4300 block for over 10 years and the speeding traffic and accidents have become out of control and truthfully dangerous

A pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) is planned for Cary St at Commonwealth Ave. A PHB is a traffic control device designed to help pedestrians safely cross roadways at midblock crossings and uncontrolled intersections. The beacon head consists of two red lenses above a single yellow lens. The lenses remain ”dark“ until a pedestrian desiring to cross the street pushes the call button to activate the beacon, which then initiates a yellow to red lighting sequence consisting of flashing and steady lights that directs motorists to slow and come to a stop and provides the right-of-way to the pedestrian to safely cross the roadway before going dark again.
