Description
The MUTCD recommends stop signs for intersections like Cherry at China that have restricted sight distance for the prevailing vehicle speeds. At the posted speed limit of 25 mph, a vehicle will travel 36 ft in one second. With the restricted sight distance at this intersection, a driver, bicyclist or pedestrian would have less than two seconds to clear the intersection before being struck by an oncoming vehicle because of the blind spot caused by the house on the corner.

- Staff · April 4, 2025China St currently stops at Cherry St which is a three-leg intersection. (There is no fourth leg on China St.) Cherry St is a dead-end street to the south with an annual average hourly traffic (two-way) of 30 vehicles per hour. Cherry St northbound becomes one-way north at China St. The last nine years of DMV crash data (1.1.16– 12.31.24) did not reveal any reported crashes at China St and Cherry St. An all-way stop is not recommended using the MUTCD Sight Distance Option.
