Description

The safety of this intersection would be greatly improved with the addition of a stop sign where the 1300 block of Hampton St. intersects Colorado. Drivers tend to come down the hill at a high rate of speed and either endanger bikers in the bike lane to the left or pedestrians in the crosswalk to the right. Requiring them to stop would also allow the driver to notice bikers and pedestrians before heading in either direction.

Stop signs on Hampton St will make the intersection an all-way stop. The Department of Public Works (DPW) must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The intersection of Hampton St and Colorado Ave does not meet the traffic volume requirements for an all-way stop. DPW has already installed intersection ahead signs with advisory speeds in both directions on Hampton St approaching Colorado Ave.
