- Staff · March 6, 2025The Manual for Uniformed Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) contains the national standards governing all traffic control devices. All public agencies with roads open to public travel across the nation rely on the MUTCD to bring uniformity to the roadway. The use of “Children at play” type signs is discouraged by state and federal transportation departments. These signs also may give families a false sense of security. These signs do not describe where the child might be.
