Description

My family lives off of Kensington Ave. in the Museum District, and we have noticed an extraordinary amount of cars driving ant terrifying speeds outside our home. There are multiple families with children living along this street, and I am hoping we can install “speed cushions” along Kensington. This type of speed bump would allow the fire trucks from Fire Station 18 to continue at the necessary speeds when responding to emergencies while discouraging non-emergency vehicles from speeding.

The 85th percentile speed* sample on Kensington Ave between Thompson St and Arthur Ashe Blvd measured 22mph. The samples are in general compliance with the 25-mph posted speed. Speed tables are not planned at this time. (*The 85th percentile speed is the speed at or below which 85 percent of the drivers will operate with open roads and favorable conditions. The assumption underlying the 85th percentile speed is that most drivers will operate their vehicle at speeds they perceive to be safe.)
