Description

We desperately need a traffic calming study conducted on North 22nd Street from Fairmount Ave to Fairfield Ave. I've lived at the corner of T & N 22nd Streets for nearly 6 years. I've watched cars travel 40+ mph up and down N 22nd Street. There is currently ONE speed bump on the entire stretch from Fairmount to Fairfield. This is woefully insufficient. Vehicles continue to travel at high rates of speed up & down N 22nd street most recently resulting in a total loss accident in front of my house.

The incident address on the RVA 311 request is 1401 N. 22nd St which is located between T St and U St or the same block where DPW installed a speed table. The 85th percentile speed sample on N. 22nd St between U St and Fairfield Ave measured around 23mph. The samples are in general compliance with the 25-mph speed for residential streets. No additional speed tables are planned between U St and Fairfield Ave at this time. (The 85th percentile speed is the speed at or below which 85 percent of the drivers will operate with open roads and favorable conditions. The assumption underlying the 85th percentile speed is that most drivers will operate their vehicle at speeds they perceive to be safe.)
