Description
I live by this intersection and have seen multiple rear end accidents happen here. There are two back to back stop lights here on 1-way N Thompson St, at Kensington and then Patterson. The timer seems off because everyone just drives through the Kensington/Thompson light as it is yellow (or red) and then runs the second light at Patterson/Thompson as it has usually already turned red when they get to it. Cars that do actually stop properly as it is yellow/red greatly risk being rear ended here.

- Staff · June 10, 2025Dear Citizen, Thank you for your concern regarding the traffic signal timing and safety at the intersection of N. Thompson Street with Kensington and Patterson Avenues. We have reviewed the updated crash data from VDOT and DMV, and based on this data, the intersection does not show a pattern of crashes that would indicate a safety issue. At this time, the intersection is operating safely. However, we will continue to monitor the location for any future changes in traffic patterns or safety concerns. I am closing this service request now; no further action is needed at this time.
