Description

This intersection could benefit from traffic calming . A lot of people slamming on brakes and honking, likely high rates of crashes. cars on Mccloy are speeding, cars coming off the highway are often pulling out without looking. In addition, people entering the Stadium Neighborhood on Rosewood from the highway after crossing Mccloy are often speeding. If there was traffic furniture or curb extensions on Rosewood that would help, I am not sure what exactly is needed on McCloy. Thanks!

    - McCoy St between the all-way stop at Idlewood Ave and Maplewood Ave. The 85th percentile speed, the speed that 85 percent of drivers travel at or below, is one of the best indicators of a reasonable and safe speed. The 85th percentile speed sample on McCloy St measured 18mph. Traffic calming is not currently planned. - McCloy St between Maplewood Ave and Freeman Rd. The 85th percentile speed was higher as compared to the section between Idlewood Ave and Maplewood Ave. Speed tables on McCloy St was discussed with the DPW Traffic Engineering Operations Manager. Given the stadium on one side of McCloy and the freeway on the other side he decided not to recommend traffic calming at this time. - Rosewood Ave between McCloy St and Freeman Rd. The 85th percentile speed sample on Rosewood Ave measured 15mph. Traffic calming is not currently planned. Speed tables and curb extensions are capital improvements. These measures are not currently in the FY2025 budget for McCloy St or Rosewood Ave. The City of Richmond does not maintain the freeway off-ramp, but DPW made an inquiry to VDOT to discuss this matter.
