Description

There is a midblock entrance to a municpal parking lot at this location which sees a lot of daily use from 8am to 5pm. Speeding is frequent on N 26th street due to a lack of traffic calming between M and O Streets often causing incidents on this block. With roadwork planned on Jefferson Avenue, this street is seeing higher vehicular volumes as well. After hours, the parking lot becomes a place for children to learn to ride bikes making needs for traffic calming on N 26th Street more necessary.

The focused approach on speed management in the City’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program first considers the distance of a free flow street of at least 1200’ in length in a tangent section without traffic signals, existing traffic calming measures or stopped conditions on the major street. Speed tables are not planned on 26th St between M St and O St given the street length of approximately 800‘ between the two stop signs.
