Description
I’m requesting a speed bump be put in on Ford Avenue to reduce excessive speeding on this neighborhood road. Cars parking along the street are constantly side swiped by thru traffic. A car hit a tree in our yard after loosing control from driving too fast. The stop signs do not stop people from slowing down they drive right through them. Wood Street is the same length street and has a speed bump. Why does our request keep getting denied?

- Staff · October 8, 2024Ford Ave traffic must stop at three intersections between Fairfield Way and Mechanicsville Turnpike. (The measurement between stop signs from Fairfield Way to Mechanicsville is approximately: 850’/580’/310’/590’.) Besides stopping at Fairfield Way and at Mechanicsville Turnpike all-way stops exist at Hildreth St, at Sussex St and at Bryan St. Each all-way stop was legislated by City Council Ordinance: 2000-331-344 for Bryan; 2000-232-345 for Hildreth; and 2000-333-346 for Sussex. I have taken excerpts from each Ordinance: Whereas it is the consensus of Council that it would be in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Richmond and especially the citizens who reside near Ford Ave ….to erect all-way stop signs. https://richmondva.legistar.com/Legislation.aspx Speed tables are not planned along Ford Ave between Fairfield Way and Mechanicville Turnpike given the distance between stops along the corridor and the three all-way stops legislated by City Council. Contact the Richmond Police Department to enforce motorists failing to stop at the stop signs. (804.646.5100)
