Description
I am submitting this here because I am unsure where else to send it. Please do not ignore this, as it is a very serious issue! There are two sets of guy wires obstructing the sidewalk right at the crosswalk on the southeast corner of S. Harrison and W. Cary Streets. It’s incredibly frustrating: pedestrians are encouraged to use the crosswalk, but then these guy wires are directly in the path of foot traffic. My husband tripped over one of these wires on Monday and seriously injured himself.

- Staff · September 16, 2024The sidewalk maintenance program cannot move guy wires or repaint crosswalks. Forwarding to Pavement Markings to see if they might be able to move the crosswalk.
- Staff · September 18, 2024After further investigation, I found that this is an engineering and design issue.
- Staff · September 23, 2024Under review.
- Staff · October 21, 2024Dominion Power wrapped their guy wires to be highly visible to pedestrians. There is also a planned project by VCU to modify the corner of the intersection, which would shorten the distance to cross Cary Street.
