Description
The pedestrian walkways across Monument Ave at the Monument/Allen circle are much better than a few years ago, but still dangerous. Traffic still moves quickly, and visibility is poor because of parked cars nearby and the plantings in the circle. Middle-schoolers walk across everyday to go to Orchard House, as well as folks going for runs and walking dogs on Monument. Caution lights that flash when a pedestrian pushes a button would be really helpful.

Comments
- Staff · August 29, 2024Cityworks ID: 537539
- Staff · September 3, 2024Monument Ave and Allen Ave had a major intersection improvement in 2016. This included a modern roundabout and many pedestrian improvements including crosswalks, sidewalks, and shorter distances for pedestrians to cross the travel way with refuge areas in all median approaches. Also, two pedestrian crossing warning signs were included on each approach at the crosswalks. The last seven full years of reported crashes from DMV (1.1.17 – 12.31.23) did not show any reported pedestrian crashes at the intersection of Monument Ave and Allen Ave. A pedestrian signal is a capital improvement and is not included in the adopted 2025 Capital Improvement Plan Budget. Staff will check this intersection for any needed No Parking areas.
