Description

I would like to request an assessment on Westmoreland between Monument and Patterson Ave — cars generally use this as a thru street and are often speeding. There are no crosswalks and children have to cross westmoreland due to current bus stop locations for Richmond Public Schools. Also a child was hit hy a car a few years ago in this area

DPW is already in the process of working with our contractor to collect speed samples on Westmoreland St between Patterson Ave and Monument Ave to determine if speed tables are needed. Crosswalks and pedestrian signals are available on Westmoreland St at Patterson Ave and at Monument Ave. Additional crosswalks on Westmoreland between Patterson and at Monument are not planned.

The 85th percentile speed, the speed that 85 percent of drivers travel at or below, is one of the best indicators of a reasonable and safe speed. The 85th percentile speed samples on Westmoreland St between Patterson Ave and Monument Ave measured 29mph. The speed samples are in general compliance with the 25-mph speed for residential streets and speed tables are not planned.
