The focused approach on speed management in the City’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program first considers the distance of a free flow street of at least 1200’ in length in a tangent section without traffic signals, existing traffic calming measures or stopped conditions on the major street. The Edgewood Ave curve between Montrose Ave and Essex St is now posted at 15mph. Edgewood measures about 900’ from the curve to Essex where it stops. The distance between Essex and Brookland Park Blvd where Edgewood stops is about 500’. Given these measurements speed tables are not planned on Edgewood. The last three full years of reported crashes from DMV (1.1.21 – 12.31.23) on Edgewood between Montrose Ave and Brookland Park Blvd (but not including the Brookland Park Blvd intersection) showed one reported crash.
