Description
Speeding on this portion Forest Hill Avenue/Semmes is harrowing for pedestrians and cyclists and I witness road rage from drivers every day. I understand we can't put in a speed table due to FHA being used by emergency vehicles, but we need better road design to discourage speeding, such as narrowing Semmes to one lane each way with *protected* bike lanes and parking, not just paint on the street or flashing signs that can be easily ignored by distracted drivers on a road designed like a highway

- Staff · July 26, 2024Forest Hill Ave around Brookside Rd is posted at 30mph and is the appropriate speed limit for the conditions. Traffic calming such as speed tables are not planned given Forest Hill is functionally classified as an Urban Principal Arterial and a strategic route for emergency vehicles. A pedestrian hybrid beacon is planned on Forest Hill north of Carson St. Pedestrian hybrid beacons are designed to help pedestrians safely cross the street. The beacon head consists of two red lenses above a single yellow lens. The lenses remain “dark“ until a pedestrian desiring to cross the street pushes the call button to activate the beacon, which then initiates a yellow to red lighting sequence consisting of flashing and steady lights that directs motorists to slow and come to a stop, and provides the right-of-way to the pedestrian to safely cross the roadway before going dark again.
