Description
Requesting a traffic assessment. Citizen says that vehicles constantly speed on this block, and they have had numerous accidents on the corner.

- Staff · June 12, 2024The Department of Public Works must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The intersection of Decatur St and E. 16th St does not currently meet the traffic volume requirements for an all-way stop. More information on the all-way stop study: The MUTCD conditions are mainly about a combination of traffic on the free flow street and the stopped street. This is basically how the MUTCD warrant works: - The traffic volumes along the free flow street (major street) and the stopped street (minor street) must be at a certain level for each hour for eight hours of a weekday to meet the requirements of the MUTCD all-way stop warrants. o Major street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 300 or more vehicles an hour. o Minor street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 200 or more vehicles an hour. - Both traffic conditions must be met. All-way stops are not currently planned since Decatur St and 16th St does not meet the MUTCD traffic volume requirements. Some existing traffic measures in the immediate area on Decatur St include: - A speed table between 16th St and 17th St - An all-way stop at Decatur St and 14th St.
