Description
People are speeding horribly in this area (W. Roanoke Street), then hit this sharp turn going too fast, go out of control, over-correct, and wreck. Many, many accidents (they've hit my car, gone through my lawn twice, nearly hit my husband and dogs walking on the sidewalk, hit trees, retaining walls, etc.), usually with the driver fleeing so they go unreported. We need a stronger indicator of this turn so they slow down. Both sides are an issue.

- Staff · June 4, 2024Chevrons signs are not planned for the Roanoke St curve between Dunston Ave and Crutchfield St. A three-year search of the DMV crash data base (1.1.21 – 12.31.23) revealed only one reported “fixed object off road” type crash in this area. This is the type of crash susceptible to correction by installing chevron signs. The Fire Marshall will not approve speed tables on Roanoke St between Semmes Ave and Midlothian Turnpike given the daily traffic of 9,000 vehicles a day and the functional classification of Urban Other Principal Arterial. Roanoke has measures to influence speeders including $200 enhanced speed fines as approved by a City Council Resolution and the pavement has been narrowed in each direction for a marked bike lane.
