Description
The city has inconsistently marked the approaches to roundabouts. The roundabout on Lombardy (at the entrance to Virginia Union) has a 15 mph speed limit mounted on the roundabout approach sign. This should be the standard for all roundabouts in the city. Specifically, there needs to be 15 mph sign approaching the roundabout at the Western end of Laburnum. Both on the approach from Laburnum and on the exit from the interstate.

- Staff · May 24, 2024DPW uses the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for regulatory, warning and guide signs. There have been many editions of the MUTCD and the sign colors, shapes and messages and even signing practicing have changed with each new edition. The same goes for designing streets including signing for roundabouts. Each location must be signed according to the design and need. The latest MUTCD standard roundabout signing layout doesn’t even have advisory speed limit signs. DPW will plan to review the City’s roundabouts and make signing adjustments as necessary.
