Description

I am writing about a safety issue on S Street, between N 28th Street to N 25th Street. Vehicles traveling down this road often speed, using it as a "free-for-all drag strip." This has resulted in several T-bone accidents at the intersection of N 27th and S Street. There are many kids living nearby, making this a major hazard. This is a request to add a 4-way stop at N 27th Street and S Street and/or traffic calming curb bump-outs be added to address this issue.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The intersection of S St and 27th St does not currently meet the traffic volume requirements for an all-way stop. Bump outs are not in the Capital Improvement Program and are not planned. DPW will plan to install 25mph signs on S St in both directions.

The Department will install the necessary signs.
