Description
I am writing about a safety issue on S Street, between N 28th Street to N 25th Street. Vehicles traveling down this road often speed, using it as a "free-for-all drag strip." This has resulted in several T-bone accidents at the intersection of N 27th and S Street. There are many kids living nearby, making this a major hazard. This is a request to add a 4-way stop at N 27th Street and S Street and/or traffic calming curb bump-outs be added to address this issue.

- Staff · April 23, 2024The Department of Public Works (DPW) must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The intersection of S St and 27th St does not currently meet the traffic volume requirements for an all-way stop. Bump outs are not in the Capital Improvement Program and are not planned. DPW will plan to install 25mph signs on S St in both directions.
- Staff · July 28, 2025The Department will install the necessary signs.
