    The Department of Public Works must use the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for signs installed on public streets. The MUTCD does not recognize “slow down kids ahead” type signs. These signs are discouraged by state and federal transportation departments. These signs also may give families a false sense of security.
