Description

A tree root has pushed up the first section of sidewalk west of Mulberry on the north side of Monument. People trip and fall regularly. A few days ago, as I was parking, I saw a man who was out for an exercise walk, get up after falling. He had a head laceration that was bleeding profusely. I can’t bring my elderly father to my house from that direction, as he cant get his rollator over the raised cement. It is about 2-3” higher than the next section.

Thank you for contacting the City of Richmond’s Department of Public Works. Your request was received by the Division of Sidewalk Maintenance. Upon inspection, the assessed area has been referred to maintenance for a process called concrete shaving; a process which evens out the sidewalk and eliminates tripping hazards. In order to receive the best quality of service, RVA311 requests should be limited to three (3) separate requests per household. Multiple requests associated with the same block of sidewalk and/or duplicate requests severely slow down the response and repair to damaged locations. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding of the request and resolution processes associated with sidewalk maintenance.
