Description
Having many condominium buildings and the Pohlig Box Factory apartment building all at one intersection leads to a high volume of pedestrian traffic at the N 25th and Franklin St intersection. Despite this, there is currently no painted crosswalk, signage or speed bump near this intersection. Additionally, speeding through this intersection is very common as there is no stop for traffic on N 25th. A speed bump similar to that installed recently at N 21st and Franklin should be considered.

- Staff · March 19, 2024The Department of Public Works must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. This is a federal publication that applies to all streets open to public travel. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. All-way stops are not currently planned since the N. 25th St and Franklin St intersection does not meet the MUTCD traffic volume requirements. The Fire Marshall does not support traffic calming measures on 25th St between Broad St and Main St. This street is classified as an Urban Minor Arterial and is a strategic route for emergency vehicles. 25mph signs exist in each direction on 25th between Broad and Main. No parking signs exist on 25th St for each intersection leg to enhance intersection sight distance. Crosswalks for 25th St and Franklin St are under review.
- Staff · September 25, 2024The Department will install crosswalks at 25th Street when Franklin Street is resurfaced.
