Description

We have a lot of cars that speed down Clay to catch the light at Belvidere. The problem is two fold: Most cross streets on Clay have stop signs; however, there is no stop sign at Henry & Clay. The light at Belvidere & Clay stays green for what seems like an extended period of time. What happens is: drivers who are making their way down Clay St. see that green light when they get to the stop sign at Monroe & Clay and then gun it, speeding down Clay to make the light to cross Belvidere.

The Department of Public Works must perform engineering studies in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The intersection of Clay and Henry does not meet the traffic requirements for an all-way stop.
