Description
Need to install a raised pedestrian crosswalk and reduce speed to 25mph since this is a residential area with lots of pedestrians. Its a four lane divided road that people treat like a highway and travel at speeds closer to 45mph and above rather then the 35mph posted limit. The speed limit used to be 25mph.

- Staff · January 25, 2024Gaps in traffic for pedestrians to safely cross is a key issue. Marked crosswalks alone are insufficient, since pedestrian crash risk may be increased by only providing a marked crosswalk. We must consider using other treatments, such as traffic signals with pedestrian signals where warranted to improve crossing safety for pedestrians. A traffic signal is a capital expense and not planned. Therefore, the City has no plans to mark a crosswalk (neither pavement markings or raised) on Monument Ave at Lafayette St. 2007 and 2023 Google street views show existing 35mph signs in each direction.
