Description

Southampton elementary school brings heavy traffic - speeding busses, vans, SUVs, cars - all day weekdays. Neighboring roads with less traffic have new speed tables, but this well traveled stretch does not. Roads of concern include Custis, Chellowe, Duncaster, and Ottawa because they all get lots of school traffic.

    Speed samples on Custis Rd / Prairie Rd are already planned from an earlier RVA311 request to determine if speed tables are needed. Speed samples will be taken on Chellowe Rd to determine if speed tables are needed. DPW follows the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program guidelines for the installation of speed tables on City streets. The minimum street section measurement for consideration of a speed table is 1200’ of free follow traffic. Given the length of Duncaster Rd and of Ottawa Rd of much less than 1200’ DPW is not planning speed tables on these two streets.
