Description
Immediately place “No Wide-Load” traffic signs at both the 8401 Cherokee Road & St. Route 147 / Huguenot Road intersection and the 6980 Forest Hill Avenue and Cherokee Road intersections. An oversized “wide-load” has been photographed in the South-bound Cherokee Road ditch. Can Cherokee Road safely accommodate “oversized loads” and approaching school busses, RVA Fire Engines and fuel transport vehicles? Only allow “wide-loads” on Cherokee Road with authorized “escort vehicles. Thank you.

A five-year search of the DMV crash data base did not show any reported “side-swipe same direction” or “side swipe opposite direction” type cashes on Cherokee Road between Huguenot Rd and Forest Hill Ave. DPW requires an Over-size load permit for all wide loads on public streets. DPW staff will review the route before issuing the permit and note any special conditions such as escort vehicles to lead/follow wide loads.
