Description
Crossing Staples Mill during certain times of day is very precarious. Pedestrian crosswalks could alert drivers to slow down -- that there may be people trying to cross the road to Willow Lawn and back. There is a light at Monument and Broad at Staples Mill, but that is too long a stretch to safely cross each time.

- Staff · October 30, 2023Staples Mill Rd at Augusta Ave – Request for a new crosswalk Gaps in traffic for pedestrians to safely cross is a key issue. Marked crosswalks alone are insufficient, since pedestrian crash risk may be increased by only providing a marked crosswalk. We must consider using other treatments, such as traffic signals with pedestrian signals where warranted to improve crossing safety for pedestrians. A traffic signal is a capital expense and not planned. Therefore, the City has no plans to mark a crosswalk on Staples Mill Rd at Augusta Ave at this time. Crosswalks and pedestrian indicators are located on Staples Mill Rd at Broad St and at Monument Ave for pedestrians to safely cross the street.
