Description

Speeding continues, as the 2 new humps were placed too far apart, diminishing their effectiveness. The two humps placed are over 1000 feet apart. The VDOT Traffic Calming Guide for Neighborhood Streets states that they not exceed 500 ft and no nor than 200ft The spacing of vertical, horizontal and narrowing devices should not exceed a distance of 500 feet between subsequent devices. As noted in VDOT’s Roadway Design Manual; studies indicate that operating speeds are 30 mph or less

After researching the locations in question, we recovered that a traffic study was conducted in the area and the locations for each speed hump was designated from that. Furthermore, the City of Richmond does not have to abide by VDOT standards. In certain instances, the city has used VDOT standards for guidance but is not obligated to do so. No further action necassary at this time.
