Description
Request a 3-way stop if a 4 way is not acceptable. Request an engineering review if neither is acceptable without a review. Coming from 26th, NW-bound traffic on Q st is not visible (see attached photos). There are several near-misses that occur here daily, and at least 2 accidents a year. Can provide footage. Per mutcd, there are options here that would warrant a review. In lieu of a sign, speed bumps would suffice or additional no-parking signs should be added to NW traffic on Q and enforced!

- Staff · February 7, 2024DPW must perform an engineering study in accordance with the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) before installing an all-way stop. All all-way stops must meet the warrants in the MUTCD. The MUTCD conditions are mainly about a combination of traffic on the free flow street and the stopped street. This is basically how the MUTCD 8-Hour Volume warrant works: - The traffic volumes along the free flow street (major street) and the stopped street (minor street) must be at a certain level for each hour for eight hours of a weekday to meet the requirements of the MUTCD all-way stop warrants. o Major street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 300 or more vehicles an hour. o Minor street minimum requirement (total of both approaches) = 200 or more vehicles an hour. - Both traffic conditions must be met. All-way stops are not currently planned at Q St and 26th St because this intersection does not meet the MUTCD traffic volume requirements. DMV has two reported crashes in the latest seven full years of crash data. One in 2015 and one in 2022. From these records there are no recurring crash patterns within a typical three-year crash study. No parking signs are now on Q St for all four corners to enhance visibility for motorists entering the intersection from 26th St.
