Description

Since the intersection of 9th and Broad has reopened, cars come speeding along this block as they head north. This is dangerous, especially in light of the visibility problems for drivers trying to exit the Library of Virginia parking garage, and the high volume of pedestrians.

Traffic signal progression speeds determine the pace of an urban street. The traffic signal system progressions downtown (green waves) are set to work at 25mph along the corridors such as 9th St. Pedestrian signal indicators are at all signals along 9th St. Leading pedestrian intervals (LPI) are active at the traffic signals at 9th with Broad and with Grace. The LPI gives pedestrians the opportunity to enter the crosswalks several seconds before the green indication for vehicles. No additional changes are currently planned.
