Description
This intersection at 5th and Jackson has at least 4 major accidents annually and many near misses. Largely this is due to traffic on 5th after exiting HWY 64 directly into a 25 MPH business area, so they're going too fast run through red lights at 5th and Jackson. Pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles are all at risk. As part of the Vision Zero initiative I am requesting an assessment of this intersection and possible addition of speed bumps and/or traffic circles to create traffic calming.

- Staff · October 30, 2024Once the 5th Street Bridge Construction is completed, the Department will make sure the 5th Street thru lanes tie into Broad Street for balance, appropriate parking and loading zones are maintained. Traffic calming opportunities like curb extensions will be evaluated at the same time.
